AI Usage: my Claude and Codex limits in the menu bar
A small macOS menu bar app that shows how much of my Claude and Codex quota is left, how fast I'm burning through it and when it resets.
- Swift
- macOS
- Claude Code
- Codex
AI Usage sits in the macOS menu bar and shows one number per provider: how much of the Claude and Codex quota is used. Click it, and you get the details.
What it shows
- The quota windows. The 5-hour and the weekly limit for each provider, plus extra model-specific limits where a plan reports them.
- How fast I’m using it. A small burn history for the current window, so I can see whether a session was calm or intense.
- When it resets. A countdown, and if I want, an estimate like “about 2 hours left at this pace”.
- History. A simple chart over 1, 7 or 30 days, stored locally on my Mac.
Built to stay local
I think a tool like this should be boring in the best way. It runs locally, keeps its history in a folder on my machine and never touches the login Claude Code itself uses. For multiple Claude accounts there’s a guided setup that keeps each one separate.
There’s no signed download. It’s a personal project, so you build it yourself with one command. Honestly, I like that. It keeps it small and honest.
Why it’s in the Lab
It’s a good example of how I use AI tools now: not just for client work, but to build the small things I wish existed. This one started as a quick fix and turned into something I look at fifty times a day.
